Unlike explicit memory, which involves conscious recall of facts or events, procedural memory allows you to perform actions without actively thinking about each step. It is essential for routine activities and learned skills.
Example
Learning to ride a bicycle is a good example of procedural memory. At first, you have to consciously think about balancing, pedaling, and steering. Over time, these movements become automatic due to procedural memory. Even if you haven't ridden a bike in years, your body remembers how to do it because the skill is stored in your procedural memory.

Procedural memory is crucial because it allows us to perform daily tasks efficiently without constant conscious effort. This frees up mental resources for more complex thinking and problem-solving.
